27th APRIL 10.00am - 3.00pm
PRUE HUTTON WILL TAKE “EXPLORING AND EXPERIMENTING WITH BLOCK PRINTING”
This one-day workshop will be suitable for those with no printmaking experience and for all those who like to experiment with designs. We will use block printing techniques to cleverly create small patterns which, when printed in different frequencies, will form a variety of amazing larger designs. We will be using ‘ezy carve’ printing blocks and conventional lino cutting tools. Ezy carve is a rubber block that is very easy to cut - a bit like carving butter.

MAY 18. 10.00 am - 3.00 pm
LJILJA ARMSTRONG will present a workshop
“PAINT, PRINT, EMBELLISH AND STITCH”
THIS MIXED-MEDIA WORKSHOP WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO ENJOY THE SPIRIT OF PLAY AND EXPLORATION. THE STARTING POINT WILL BE PLAIN PIECES OF FABRIC, CALICO AND BLACK HOMESPUN. THE SURFACES WILL BE GRADUALLY BUILT UP WITH LAYERS OF PAINT USING SIMPLE TECHNIQUES - BRUSHES, STAMPING AND STENCILLING. ONCE THE PAINTING HAS BEEN COMPLETED THE WORK MAY BE FURTHER DEVELOPED WITH THE ADDITION OF “POPS” OF COLOURED FABRIC, COLOURED PENCILS AND SIMPLE STITCHING.
THESE UNIQUE CREATIONS MAY THEN BE USED AS BOOK COVERS, CARDS, FABRIC PAGES IN A BOOK, OR TURNED INTO 3D FORMS.

MAHDI CHANDLER will conduct a TWO day workshop on 21 and 22 June, 10am until 3pm
The title is COLOUR on PAPER and CLOTH
You can expect 2 days of exploration and experimentation with dye, print, paint, collage and stitch, celebrating colour and texture.
This is essentially a process rather than a project-based workshop but there will be some small projects to keep you on your toes. You will have many opportunities to use materials and techniques aimed at expanding and extending your knowledge, skills and personal art practice.
You will be encouraged to take a fresh look at using colour in your work and some alternative ways of auditioning elements.
We will use Procion MX fibre reactive dyes, soda ash and salt to colour cloth and paper. You will need to wear gloves and suitable clothing. Once these dyes are in solution or thickened they are quite safe. Mahdi will mix them; they are extremely light and wash fast and come in a fabulous range of colours.
There are no prerequisites for this workshop, just an open mind and a willingness to challenge preconceived ideas.
Being 2 days, it will cost participants $80 for members and $100 for non members.
More 'what to bring' information will be sent at the end of May.
Early payment will secure a place. It is preferred that workshop fees are paid 2 weeks in advance.
